10 Things to do after you get Engaged

You’re engaged!! It is one of THE most exciting times of your life! From announcing the news to starting to plan the wedding, here are 10 steps to take following your engagement.

  1. Tell your friends and family - it’s best to them face to face if possible. Not only would they be disappointed to find out via social media but seeing the look on their face is priceless.
  2. Get a manicure - a lot of people are going to be asking to see the ring, your nails need to be looking polished.
  3. Announce your engagement on Social Media - this is a great way of telling all the people you don’t speak to regularly but would still like to share your news with. Plus who doesn’t love a ring selfie?
  4. Decide whether you want an engagement party - everyone will be wanting to congratulate you and your fiancé so why not bring everyone together, it’s the perfect excuse for a party.
  5. Establish who is paying for the wedding - traditionally it is the bride’s parents who pay but these days it’s common for the bride and groom to pay or get financial help from both sets of parents.
  6. Set a budget - there is no point looking at venues, dresses etc. that are completely out of your price range, be realistic with what you can afford.
  7. Plan when you want to get married - set a rough time frame of how long you want to be engaged for and the time of year you want to get married. The price of venues can vary massively depending on time of year.
  8. Decide on the type of wedding you would like - Do you want to get married abroad? Do you want a church wedding? Do you want to get married outdoors? This will set the theme for a lot of decisions later down the line.
  9. Make a guestlist - this only needs to be a guide but knowing your numbers will help when it comes to picking venues.
  10. Contact wedding venues - once you have a rough idea of what you want it’s time to start looking around. Remember that if you are having the ceremony and the reception at 2 venues you will need to consider travel time.

Once you have chosen the venue and set a date it's time to start planning the Wedding!!
